Biography
Peter Michael Falk (September 16, 1927 – June 23, 2011) was a celebrated American actor and comedian, whose most iconic role was that of Lieutenant Columbo in the beloved television series Columbo, which aired from 1968 to 2003. This character not only became a cultural touchstone but also garnered Falk four Primetime Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe Award.
Falk received Academy Award nominations for Best Supporting Actor on two occasions: first for his performance in Murder, Inc. (1960) and again for Pocketful of Miracles (1961). His artistic collaborations with director and actor John Cassavetes were particularly noteworthy, featuring in several films such as Husbands (1970), A Woman Under the Influence (1974), and Opening Night (1977). Falk also appeared in the memorable Columbo episode "Étude in Black" (1972).
Beyond his television triumphs, Falk's filmography is extensive, showcasing his versatility. Notable films include the epic comedy It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963), the slapstick adventure The Great Race (1965), and the poignant Wings of Desire (1987). His performances in The Princess Bride (1987), The Player (1992), and Next (2007) further solidified his status as a talented and enduring figure in the entertainment industry.
