Warren Stevens
Biography
Warren Albert Stevens was a distinguished American actor whose talent graced stage, film, and television over a remarkable career. A pivotal figure in the arts, he was a founding member of The Actor's Studio in New York and gained early acclaim on Broadway in the late 1940s. His initial theater role came in Bertolt Brecht's *The Life of Galileo*, which led to a Hollywood contract with 20th Century Fox. His cinematic debut was in *The Frogmen*, and he appeared in various films throughout the 1950s, including *Phone Call from a Stranger*, *Wait Till the Sun Shines, Nellie*, and *Gorilla at Large*. One of his most memorable performances was as the doomed "Doc" Ostrow in the iconic science fiction classic, *Forbidden Planet*.
Though he had some notable film roles, Stevens found a more consistent career in television, becoming a versatile character actor. He starred as Lt. William Storm in *Tales of the 77th Bengal Lancers* and lent his voice to John Bracken in *Bracken's World*. He was also known for his role as Elliot Carson in *Return to Peyton Place* and made appearances in over 150 television shows, including revered series such as *Perry Mason*, *The Twilight Zone*, and *Mission: Impossible*.
In 1970, his collaboration with Richard Boone on the film *Robbers' Roost* led to a recurring role in *The Richard Boone Show*. Although later in life his screen appearances became less frequent, he made notable guest appearances, including a role in *ER* in 2006. Warren Stevens leaves behind a legacy of diverse performances and contributions to American entertainment.
