Biography

Michael Lee Aday, widely recognized as Meat Loaf, was born on September 27, 1947, and passed away on January 20, 2022. He was a prominent American singer and actor, celebrated for his remarkable vocal range and dynamic live performances. The cornerstone of his career was the Bat Out of Hell trilogy, which includes Bat Out of Hell, Bat Out of Hell II: Back into Hell, and Bat Out of Hell III: The Monster Is Loose, collectively selling over 65 million copies globally. Even decades after its debut, the original Bat Out of Hell continues to sell approximately 200,000 copies each year, solidifying its status as one of the best-selling albums of all time, remaining on the charts for an impressive nine years.

Despite the phenomenal success of his albums, including a Grammy Award for Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance for "I'd Do Anything for Love," Meat Loaf faced challenges in maintaining a consistent career in the U.S. However, he emerged as one of the best-selling artists in history, with over 80 million records sold worldwide. His enduring popularity, particularly in Europe, was highlighted by a 1994 Brit Award for the best-selling album and single. He also gained fame in the UK music scene, ranking 23rd in chart longevity as of 2006 and being featured on VH1's list of "100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock."

In addition to his musical pursuits, Aday acted in over 50 films and TV shows, often portraying characters akin to his theatrical persona. Notable roles include Eddie in The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) and Bob Paulson in Fight Club (1999). He also showcased his talent in the original Broadway cast of The Rocky Horror Show and had roles in the iconic musical Hair.
