Ned Thomas Beatty (July 6, 1937 – June 13, 2021) was a distinguished American actor renowned for his versatile performances across film and television. Over his impressive career, he garnered nominations for an Academy Award, two Emmy Awards, and a Golden Globe, along with a Drama Desk Award for his stage work.

Beatty's acclaim stemmed from notable roles in a variety of projects, including the groundbreaking film Network (1976), the poignant television drama Friendly Fire (1979), and the heartfelt Last Train Home (1990). He also appeared in the 2004 adaptation of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.

He is perhaps best remembered for his unforgettable characters in commercially successful films. His portrayal of Bobby Trippe in Deliverance (1972) left a lasting impression, while his role as Delbert Reese, a Tennessee lawyer in Nashville (1975), showcased his range. Beatty's talent shone in All the President's Men (1976) as attorney Dardis, and he captivated audiences as Otis, Lex Luthor's bumbling henchman in Superman (1978) and its sequel Superman II (1980). Other memorable performances include the corrupt Senator Meachum in Shooter (2007) and the voice of Lots-O'-Huggin' Bear in Toy Story 3 (2010).
