Biography
Edward Charles Morice Fox, born on April 13, 1937, is a distinguished English actor celebrated for his contributions to stage, film, and television. He is the elder sibling of fellow actor James Fox.
Fox gained widespread recognition for his role as the professional assassin in the 1973 film "The Day of the Jackal," where he was tasked with eliminating French President Charles de Gaulle. His impressive filmography includes notable performances in "Battle of Britain" (1969), "The Go-Between" (1971)—a performance that earned him a BAFTA award—and "The Bounty" (1984). He frequently collaborated with director Richard Attenborough, appearing in several of his acclaimed films, including "Oh! What a Lovely War" (1969), "A Bridge Too Far" (1977), and "Gandhi" (1982).
In the realm of television, Fox portrayed Edward VIII in the acclaimed series "Edward & Mrs. Simpson" (1978) and made a notable appearance in the historical drama "Taboo" (2017). His talents extend beyond the screen, as he has also earned recognition for his work on stage, showcasing his versatility as an actor.
In recognition of his significant contributions to the performing arts, Fox was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2003, honoring his dedication to drama.
