Biography

Catherine Jacob, born on December 16, 1956, is a renowned French actress celebrated for her contributions to both film and theater. She gained significant recognition after winning a César Award for her performance in the 1988 film "Life Is a Long Quiet River." Additionally, she garnered nominations for Best Supporting Actress for her roles in "Tatie Danielle" (1990), "Merci la vie" (1991), and "Neuf mois" (1994). Jacob has also served as president for the Lumières Award twice and is well-known for her distinct voice and captivating presence.

Originating from Paris, Jacob spent part of her formative years in Compiègne, where she attended primary school before moving on to Pierre d'Ailly High School. Born to a dental surgeon father and an orthodontist mother, she has a younger brother. After earning a diploma in architecture, she relocated to Paris and pursued acting, enrolling at the Cours Florent from 1978 to 1980.

Her acting career began in the early 1980s with minor roles in films such as "Swann in Love" (1984) and "Les Nanas" (1985), as well as in various television movies and series. In 1985, she wrote and performed in her one-woman show "Welcome to the Club," which received critical acclaim. Jacob's breakthrough came with her role in "Life Is a Long Quiet River," leading to further success in theater and film.
