Ruby Dee (October 27, 1922 – June 11, 2014) was a multifaceted American talent known for her work as an actress, poet, playwright, screenwriter, journalist, and civil rights activist. She gained prominence for her powerful portrayal of Ruth Younger in both the stage and film adaptations of Lorraine Hansberry's iconic play, A Raisin in the Sun.
