Biography
Dev Patel, born on April 23, 1990, is a prominent British actor known for his dynamic performances across film and television. He launched his career with a significant role as Anwar Kharral in the E4 teen drama series, Skins, in 2007, which set the stage for his future successes. His major breakthrough arrived in 2008 when he portrayed Jamal Malik in the critically acclaimed film Slumdog Millionaire, directed by Danny Boyle. This role earned him a nomination for the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role.
Following this success, Patel continued to ascend in the film industry with leading performances in the beloved comedy-dramas The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2011) and its sequel, The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2015). He showcased his versatility in the science fiction thriller Chappie (2015) and took on a supporting role in the acclaimed HBO series The Newsroom, which aired from 2012 to 2014.
In 2016, Patel's portrayal of Saroo Brierley in the drama Lion garnered him the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role and an Academy Award nomination in the same category. His recent works include significant roles in independent films like Hotel Mumbai (2018), The Personal History of David Copperfield (2019), and The Green Knight (2021).
