Robert Stephens
Biography
Sir Robert Stephens (14 July 1931 – 12 November 1995) was a prominent English actor celebrated for his contributions to the Royal National Theatre in its formative years. Renowned as one of the most esteemed performers of his time, he was often seen as the heir apparent to the legendary Laurence Olivier. Throughout his illustrious career, Stephens showcased his immense talent on stage, while also appearing in over 100 theatrical films and television series.
His personal life included a notable marriage to acclaimed actress Maggie Smith from 1967 until their separation in 1974. Together, they raised two sons, Toby Stephens and Chris Larkin, both of whom followed in their parents' footsteps to pursue careers in acting.
Stephens' remarkable achievements were recognized when he was knighted in 1995, a testament to his significant impact on the performing arts. However, his life was cut short due to health complications following surgery, leading to his passing on 12 November 1995 at the age of 64.
