John Bromfield

Biography

John Bromfield, born Farron Bromfield on June 11, 1922, in South Bend, Indiana, was an American actor renowned for his work in film and television. An athlete in his youth, he excelled in football and was a boxing champion during his college years. Following his college education, Bromfield proudly served in the United States Navy.

His acting career began to take off in 1948 when he appeared in the documentary *Harpoon*, where he famously harpooned a whale. That same year, he starred as a detective alongside Burt Lancaster and Barbara Stanwyck in Columbia Pictures' thriller *Sorry, Wrong Number*. Bromfield showcased his versatility in the 1953 musical film *Easy to Love*, featuring Esther Williams, shot in the picturesque Cypress Gardens, Florida.

In the mid-1950s, he found a niche in westerns, portraying a sheriff in an episode of NBC's anthology series *Frontier*. Notably, he starred in the 1955 horror classic *Revenge of the Creature*, a sequel in the *Creature from the Black Lagoon* franchise.

In 1956, Bromfield took on the role of Frank Morgan in the popular western crime drama series *Sheriff of Cochise*, later renamed *U.S. Marshal*. The show garnered a significant audience, reaching approximately 40 million viewers weekly, and featured many actors who later achieved fame in Hollywood.

After retiring from acting in 1960, Bromfield transitioned to producing sports shows and worked as a commercial fisherman in Newport Beach, California. He was married three times, most notably to actress Corinne Calvet and Larri Thomas, before spending 43 years with his third wife, Mary Bromfield. He passed away on September 19, 2005, at the age of 83, due to renal failure in Palm Desert, California.
