Biography
Wesley Trent Snipes, born on July 31, 1962, is a renowned American actor and martial artist celebrated for his versatile performances across various film genres, particularly in action. Hailing from Florida, Snipes gained early recognition with roles in the sports comedy Major League (1989), the drama Mo' Better Blues (1990), and the crime thriller King of New York (1990). His breakout moment came in 1991 when he portrayed a drug lord in the acclaimed crime drama New Jack City, followed by standout performances in Jungle Fever and the sports hit White Men Can't Jump (both released in 1992).
Snipes solidified his status as an action star with memorable roles in films such as Demolition Man (1993), Rising Sun (1993), and the blockbuster Blade (1998), where he played the titular character, a role he reprised in Blade II (2002) and Blade: Trinity (2004). His contributions to the genre also include the anticipated Deadpool & Wolverine (2024).
In addition to his acting career, Snipes established his production company, Amen-Ra Films, in 1991, and its subsidiary, Black Dot Media, focusing on diverse projects in film and television. With a deep commitment to martial arts, he holds a 5th dan black belt in Shotokan karate and a 2nd dan in Hapkido, and is credited with enhancing the portrayal of Black actors in action roles. In 2017, he ventured into literature with his urban fantasy novel, Talon of God, further showcasing his creative talents.
