Alfred Charles Sharpton Jr., born on October 3, 1954, is a prominent American civil rights activist, Baptist minister, talk show host, and former adviser to President Barack Obama. In 2004, he pursued the Democratic nomination for the U.S. presidency, showcasing his commitment to social justice on a national stage. He currently hosts "Keepin' It Real," a popular radio talk show, and has made numerous guest appearances on various cable news networks. In 2011, Sharpton took on the role of host for MSNBC’s "PoliticsNation," a nightly program that later transitioned to Sunday mornings in 2015.

Sharpton has garnered significant support for his fearless advocacy against systemic injustices, with many praising his dedication to amplifying the voices of marginalized communities. Former New York City Mayor Ed Koch, once a critic, acknowledged Sharpton's commitment, stating that he earns respect for his willingness to stand alongside those in need.
