James Garner
Biography
James Scott Garner, born on April 7, 1928, and passing on July 19, 2014, was a celebrated American actor, producer, and voice artist whose career spanned over fifty years. Garner is perhaps best known for his iconic roles, including Bret Maverick in the beloved 1950s western comedy series *Maverick*, and as the charming private investigator Jim Rockford in the acclaimed series *The Rockford Files*. His versatility extended to the big screen, where he starred in more than 50 films.
Among his notable cinematic achievements are roles in the classic war film *The Great Escape* (1963), where he shared the screen with Steve McQueen, and Paddy Chayefsky’s poignant *The Americanization of Emily* (1964). Garner also showcased his range in *Grand Prix* (1966), the musical comedy *Victor/Victoria* (1982), and the romantic drama *Murphy's Romance* (1985), which earned him an Academy Award nomination.
