Deneen Tyler
Biography
Deneen Tyler hails from New Orleans and boasts over two decades of experience in film, television, and voice work. Her journey into acting began in the theater scene, where a friend's encouragement led her to her debut performance at the Black Theater Festival. This initial success opened the door for her to portray Rose in a local rendition of August Wilson's Fences at Le Petit Theatre in New Orleans. The emergence of the Louisiana Tax Incentive brought Hollywood to the South, and soon after, Deneen found herself cast in notable films such as The Skeleton Key, Big Momma's House 2, and Hurricane Season. She also appeared in acclaimed television series like Friday Night Lights and Treme.
Among her most significant roles, Deneen has featured in two Oscar-nominated films, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Dallas Buyers Club, as well as the Academy Award-winning 12 Years a Slave, where she portrayed Phebe. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Deneen is a devoted wife and mother to her daughter, Devyn, who played the adult version of Margaret Northup in 12 Years a Slave. Her career reflects a deep commitment to her craft and a strong connection to her New Orleans roots.
