Biography

Farhan Akhtar, born on January 10, 1974, in Mumbai, is a multifaceted talent in the Indian film industry, renowned as a director, screenwriter, producer, actor, playback singer, and television host. Raised in a cinematic environment as the son of celebrated screenwriters Javed Akhtar and Honey Irani, he was inspired from an early age to pursue a career in filmmaking. Akhtar kicked off his journey in Bollywood by serving as an assistant director on films like Lamhe (1991) and Himalay Putra (1997).

In 1999, he co-founded Excel Entertainment with Ritesh Sidhwani, which marked a significant turning point in his career. His directorial debut came with the critically acclaimed film Dil Chahta Hai (2001), which resonated with modern youth and earned him a National Film Award. He followed up with Lakshya (2004), further establishing his storytelling prowess. Akhtar also made his mark internationally by contributing lyrics to the soundtrack of Bride and Prejudice (2004), marking his Hollywood debut.

In addition to his commercial successes, including the blockbuster Don (2006), Akhtar directed the impactful short film Positive (2007) to raise awareness about HIV-AIDS. His diverse talents and contributions to cinema continue to inspire many in the industry.
