Biography

Kenneth Mars (April 4, 1935 – February 12, 2011) was a distinguished American actor known for his versatile performances across film, television, and voice work. He gained significant recognition for his roles in two of Mel Brooks' iconic films: portraying the eccentric Nazi playwright Franz Liebkind in *The Producers* (1967) and the bumbling Police Inspector Hans Wilhelm Friedrich Kemp in *Young Frankenstein* (1974).

Mars showcased his comedic talents in Peter Bogdanovich's *What's Up Doc?* (1972) and collaborated with Woody Allen in *Radio Days* (1987) and *Shadows and Fog* (1991). His memorable television appearances included two seasons of the popular series *Malcolm in the Middle*, where he played Otto Mannkusser, an endearing but clueless German immigrant and dude ranch owner.

In the realm of animation, Mars lent his voice to some beloved characters, most notably as King Triton, the father of Ariel in Disney's *The Little Mermaid* (1989) and its sequel, along with the animated series and the *Kingdom Hearts* video game franchise. Additionally, he voiced Littlefoot's grandfather in the *Land Before Time* series up to 2008, Professor Screweyes in *We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story* (1993), and King Colbert in *Thumbelina* (1994).
