Biography
Mary Field (June 10, 1909 – June 12, 1996) was a notable American actress best recognized for her supporting roles in film and television. Born in New York City, she faced a challenging start to life, having been abandoned as an infant outside a church with a note identifying her as "Olivia Rockefeller." She was later adopted, which set the stage for her journey to stardom.
Field's acting career took off in 1937 when she signed with Warner Bros. Studios, marking her film debut in *The Prince and the Pauper*. Throughout her prolific career, she appeared in over 100 films, showcasing her talent in a variety of genres. Her impressive filmography includes significant roles in classics such as *Jezebel* (1938), *Ball of Fire* (1941), *How Green Was My Valley* (1941), *Mrs. Miniver* (1942), *Miracle on 34th Street* (1947), and *Life With Father* (1947).
In addition to her film work, Field made her mark on television, with appearances in popular series like *Gunsmoke*, *Wagon Train*, and *The Loretta Young Show*. Her final acting performance came in 1963, portraying a Roman Catholic nun in the series *Going My Way*, inspired by the 1944 film featuring Bing Crosby. Field also made memorable guest appearances on the comedy show *Topper*, playing Thelma Gibney, a friend of Henrietta Topper. Throughout her career, Mary Field left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry.
