Fabrice Luchini
Biography
Fabrice Luchini was born in Paris, France, in the Île-de-France region, to an Italian immigrant family that ran a fruit and vegetable business. Growing up in the Goutte d'Or neighborhood of the 18th arrondissement, he was immersed in a vibrant cultural environment. At the age of 13, Luchini took on an apprenticeship at a fashionable hair salon on Avenue Matignon, adopting the name "Fabrice" from the salon owner's son, while simultaneously nurturing a deep love for literature, inspired by the works of Balzac, Flaubert, and Proust. His enthusiasm for soul music, particularly James Brown, led him to frequent local discothèques, where he crossed paths with Philippe Labro, who offered him his first acting role in the film *Tout peut arriver* in 1969.
Luchini honed his acting skills under the guidance of Jean-Laurent Cochet, and it was his collaboration with Éric Rohmer that catapulted him to fame, particularly for his role in *Le Genou de Claire* in 1970. He continued to work with Rohmer on multiple projects, including *Perceval le Gallois* and *Les Nuits de la pleine lune*, while also collaborating with renowned directors like Nagisa Oshima and Claude Lelouch.
Discovering a profound passion for theater, which he described as a unique expression of life, Luchini gained widespread recognition for his performance in *La Discrète* (1990). Throughout his career, he has successfully balanced his work between film and theater, captivating audiences with his readings of classic texts by La Fontaine, Nietzsche, and others since 1980.
