Martin McCann
Biography
Martin McCann was raised alongside his brother and sister in the Divis Flats neighborhood of Falls Road, Belfast. His acting journey took a significant turn in 2006 when the esteemed Lord Richard Attenborough discovered him in a stage adaptation of A Clockwork Orange, where he portrayed the character Alex. Impressed by McCann's performance, Attenborough recommended him to Steven Spielberg, leading to an invitation for McCann to audition for HBO's miniseries, The Pacific. His talent shone through, and he was cast as R.V. Burgin.
In early 2010, McCann returned to Belfast to film Killing Bono, a music-comedy that follows the life of one of Bono's classmates struggling to break into the music industry amidst U2's soaring success. In this film, McCann took on the role of Bono himself, further showcasing his versatility as an actor. He has also graced stages across Ireland and during tours, enhancing his reputation in the performing arts.
In recognition of his outstanding work, Martin was honored with the Irish Film and Television Award for Best Male Performance in a Feature Film in 2011, competing against notable actors such as Liam Neeson, Cillian Murphy, and Colm Meaney. Beyond his acting career, he has taken on the role of Patron for YouthAction Northern Ireland, reflecting his commitment to supporting young people in his community.
