John McConnell
Biography
John McConnell, affectionately known as John "Spud" McConnell, was born on November 13, 1958, and is a versatile American actor and radio host hailing from New Orleans, Louisiana. With a rich career spanning over 40 films, McConnell is recognized for his roles in both independent projects, often shot in the Gulf Coast area, and larger productions, including the acclaimed Coen Brothers film, *O Brother, Where Art Thou?* He has also graced the stage, notably in an off-Broadway performance of the one-man show *The Kingfish*, where he depicted the charismatic Louisiana Governor Huey P. Long.
One of McConnell's most memorable portrayals is that of Ignatius J. Reilly from the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel *A Confederacy of Dunces*. This iconic role inspired the creation of a life-sized bronze statue of Reilly, which stands proudly on Canal Street in downtown New Orleans. In the realm of television, he made notable appearances alongside his friend John Goodman in the popular series *Roseanne*, spanning three seasons. More recently, McConnell has taken on a recurring role in the FX series *The Riches*, featuring stars Eddie Izzard and Minnie Driver.
In addition to his acting career, McConnell is a conservative voice on the airwaves, hosting "The Spud Show," a daily call-in talk show on WWL 870 AM and 105.3 FM.
