Tessa Lynne Thompson, born on October 3, 1983, is a multifaceted American actress, producer, singer, and songwriter. Her journey in the performing arts began at the Los Angeles Women's Shakespeare Company while she pursued her studies at Santa Monica College. During her time there, she showcased her talent in productions like The Tempest and Romeo and Juliet, the latter earning her a nomination for a NAACP Theatre Award.

Thompson's career reached new heights with standout performances in Tina Mabry's independent film Mississippi Damned (2009) and Tyler Perry's For Colored Girls (2010), which solidified her presence in the film industry. Raised in a culturally rich environment between Los Angeles and Brooklyn, she draws from her diverse heritage—her father, Marc Anthony Thompson, is of Afro-Panamanian descent and a notable musician, while her mother has both white and Mexican roots.
