Don Beddoe
Biography
Donald T. Beddoe (July 1, 1903 – January 19, 1991) was a distinguished American character actor known for his versatility and charm. Hailing from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he was raised in a musically inclined family, his father being a Welsh classical singer. Beddoe pursued higher education at the University of Cincinnati, earning both bachelor’s and master’s degrees, and spent three years teaching English before venturing into acting.
His career began on stage and in minor film roles, but it wasn't until the late 1930s that Beddoe gained recognition for playing fast-talking reporters and similar characters. His budding film career was interrupted by his service in World War II, where he performed in the Air Force play, *Winged Victory*. After the war, he returned to the silver screen, taking on numerous character roles and occasionally appearing in comedy shorts, including memorable performances in Three Stooges films like *Three Sappy People* and *You Nazty Spy!*
Over his prolific career, Beddoe appeared in over 250 films and numerous television series, including a notable role as Mr. Tolliver in ABC's *The Second Hundred Years* and several guest spots on shows like *Perry Mason* and *Have Gun – Will Travel*. He portrayed the notorious outlaw Black Bart in a 1954 episode of *Death Valley Days* and made several appearances on *Nanny and the Professor*. His final television appearance came in 1984 on NBC's *Highway to Heaven*. Beddoe's legacy as a versatile and hardworking performer endures in the annals of American film and television history.
