Timothy McVeigh

1 title(s) Acting Lockport, New York, USA

Biography

Timothy James McVeigh was a domestic terrorist from the United States, best known for orchestrating the Oklahoma City bombing on April 19, 1995. This devastating act resulted in the deaths of 168 individuals, including 19 children, and left approximately 680 others injured. The attack also led to the destruction of a significant portion of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, marking it as one of the most catastrophic incidents of domestic terrorism in American history.

McVeigh's motivations stemmed from his deep-seated anti-government beliefs, which he articulated through various writings and interviews. He viewed the bombing as a response to what he perceived as government overreach, particularly in light of events such as the Waco siege in 1993. On the day of the bombing, McVeigh detonated a truck filled with explosives outside the federal building, leading to widespread devastation and significant loss of life.

Following an extensive investigation, McVeigh was apprehended, tried, and ultimately convicted for his actions. On June 11, 2001, he was executed by lethal injection, becoming the first person executed by the federal government in the United States since 1963. McVeigh's actions and their aftermath have had a lasting impact on national discussions surrounding domestic terrorism and government accountability.
