John Miljan (November 9, 1892 – January 24, 1960) was a prominent American actor recognized for his compelling portrayals of villains in Hollywood films over nearly four decades. His cinematic career spanned from 1924 to 1958, during which he appeared in an impressive 201 films.
Miljan transitioned to the sound era of cinema with his notable appearance in a promotional trailer for the groundbreaking film The Jazz Singer in 1927, a pivotal moment in film history. As his career progressed, he became known for playing formidable characters, often depicting high-ranking officials or military figures. One of his most memorable roles was as General Custer in Cecil B. DeMille's classic film The Plainsman, which showcased his ability to embody authoritative figures with charisma and depth.
