Stan Lee, born Stanley Martin Lieber on December 28, 1922, in New York City, was a pivotal figure in the American comic book industry, renowned for his work as a writer, editor, publisher, and producer. He began his career at Timely Comics, which would evolve into the iconic Marvel Comics, where he significantly influenced the company’s trajectory over two decades, transforming it from a modest publishing house into a powerhouse in comics and film.

Lee's collaborations with legendary artists and co-writers such as Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko led to the creation of a plethora of beloved characters, including Spider-Man, the X-Men, Iron Man, Thor, and the Hulk, among others. His innovative storytelling, particularly in the 1960s, introduced a more relatable and humanized approach to superheroes. In the 1970s, he took a stand against the Comics Code Authority, advocating for greater creative freedom, which ultimately prompted reforms within the industry.

Even after retiring from Marvel in the 1990s, Lee maintained a strong presence in popular culture, making memorable cameo appearances in numerous Marvel films and TV shows, and earning an executive producer credit that contributed to his status as a top-grossing film personality. His legacy is celebrated through numerous accolades, including induction into the Will Eisner Award Hall of Fame in 1994 and the National Medal of Arts in 2008.
