Biography

Ed Devereaux (27 August 1925 – 17 December 2003) was a notable Australian actor whose career spanned several decades, with significant contributions while residing in the UK. He gained widespread recognition for his role as "Matt Hammond" in the beloved Australian children's television show Skippy, where he also took on writing and directing responsibilities, notably for the critically acclaimed episode "The Veteran" in 1969.

In addition to his work on Skippy, Devereaux showcased his creative talents by writing the script for the film Summer Storm and developing the storyline for Double Trouble, which was inspired by ideas from his children. He also penned the script for The Mine, further demonstrating his versatility in the industry.

Devereaux's film career included memorable appearances in the 1963 British comedy Ladies Who Do, along with several entries in the iconic Carry On series, such as Carry On Sergeant, Carry On Nurse, Carry On Regardless, Carry On Cruising, and Carry On Jack. His television credits featured roles in series such as The Onedin Line, where he portrayed Thomas Macaulay during its fifth season, as well as guest appearances in popular shows like Absolutely Fabulous, The Professionals, and The Sweeney. He also made a notable appearance in The Saint episode "The Loving Brothers" in 1964. Throughout his career, Ed Devereaux left an indelible mark on both stage and screen.
