Biography
Sofia Boutella, born on April 3, 1982, in the Bab El Oued district of Algiers, Algeria, is a multifaceted talent recognized as a dancer, model, and actress. Known primarily for her expertise in hip-hop and street dance, she gained prominence through her appearances in Nike Women's advertising campaigns. Boutella has showcased her acting prowess in notable films, portraying Gazelle in "Kingsman: The Secret Service" (2015), the alien warrior Jaylah in "Star Trek Beyond" (2016), and the central antagonist, Princess Ahmanet, in Universal's "The Mummy." In 2017, she starred alongside Charlize Theron as Delphine Lasalle, a French undercover agent in "Atomic Blonde," based on the graphic novel "The Coldest City."
Born to an architect mother and a jazz musician father, Safy Boutella, Sofia was raised in a creative environment that valued artistic expression. Her brother, Seif, is a visual effects artist in the film industry. The surname Boutella translates to “the men of the mountains.” Amidst the turmoil of the Algerian Civil War, Sofia's family relocated to France when she was just 10 years old. Shortly after their move, she took up rhythmic gymnastics, ultimately joining the French national team at the age of 18, further showcasing her athletic talent.
