Biography

Jared Joseph Leto (born December 26, 1971) is a prominent American actor and musician. He began his career in the early 1990s with various television roles, gaining significant attention for his portrayal of Jordan Catalano in the acclaimed series My So-Called Life (1994). Leto made his film debut in How to Make an American Quilt (1995) and garnered critical acclaim for his role as athlete Steve Prefontaine in Prefontaine (1997).

His filmography includes notable supporting roles in The Thin Red Line (1998), Fight Club (1999), Girl, Interrupted (1999), and American Psycho (2000), as well as a leading part in Urban Legend (1998). Leto received widespread recognition for his intense portrayal of heroin addict Harry Goldfarb in Requiem for a Dream (2000). While he shifted his focus towards music, he returned to the big screen in films such as Panic Room (2002), Alexander (2004), Lord of War (2005), and Mr. Nobody (2009). His transformative role as a transgender woman in Dallas Buyers Club (2013) earned him an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, and a Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Supporting Actor. In addition to acting, Leto is the frontman and primary songwriter for the band Thirty Seconds to Mars, which he formed with his brother Shannon.
