His journey began with rigorous training under Wu Bin, which culminated in his victory at the national championship with the Beijing Wushu Team. At just 17, he transitioned from wushu to acting, making a notable entrance into cinema with his role in the 1982 film Shaolin Temple. This film sparked his rise to fame in China, setting the stage for his iconic portrayal of the legendary folk hero Wong Fei-hung in the Once Upon A Time In China series.
