David Roger Johansen (January 9, 1950 – February 28, 2025) was a multifaceted American artist renowned for his contributions to rock, protopunk, blues, and pop music, as well as his work in acting. He gained widespread recognition as a pivotal figure in the influential protopunk band The New York Dolls, which emerged in the early 1970s and played a crucial role in shaping the punk rock movement.
