James Faulkner

Biography

James Sebastian Faulkner, born on July 18, 1948, is a British actor celebrated for his extensive work in film and television, primarily in supporting roles.

Faulkner's cinematic journey began with his role as Josef Strauss in the 1972 film The Great Waltz. He has since been featured in numerous films, including Whispering Death and Minder on the Orient Express. Notably, he portrayed Lt. Teignmouth Melvill in Zulu Dawn, a film that he also co-produced, and he appeared as Uncle Geoffrey in both Bridget Jones adaptations. Faulkner's television career includes a memorable performance as Herod in the BBC's 1976 adaptation of I, Claudius, and in 1988, he took on the role of Stapleton, one of Sherlock Holmes' most formidable foes, in Granada Television's The Hound of the Baskervilles alongside Jeremy Brett.

In 1991, he played Alex Mair, the manager of the Larksoken nuclear power plant, in an adaptation of P.D. James' novel Devices and Desires, featuring Inspector Adam Dalgleish. He has also appeared as Agent Smith in the film Hitman and served as the main antagonist, Baron Mullins, in the short-lived television series Covington Cross. Additionally, Faulkner lent his voice to Severus Snape in the video game adaptation of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and played Lord Kenworth in Agent Cody Banks 2: Destination London.
