Gabriele Susanne Kerner, widely recognized by her stage name Nena, was born on March 24, 1960, in Germany. She gained worldwide recognition in 1983 with her hit single "99 Luftballons," a defining track of the New German Wave movement. The song's English version, titled "99 Red Balloons," further solidified her reputation internationally. Nena was not just the name of the artist but also the band that produced this iconic hit.
Following a period of relative quietness in her career, Nena experienced a revival beginning in 2002, sparked by a re-recording of "99 Luftballons" and the release of several of her classic tracks. This resurgence allowed her to reconnect with both old fans and a new generation of listeners.
