Biography

John Saxon, born Carmine Orrico on August 5, 1935, in Brooklyn, New York, was a prolific American actor and martial artist whose career spanned six decades and included over 200 film and television projects. Known for his compelling roles in Westerns and horror films, Saxon often portrayed law enforcement characters, earning a reputation for his versatility and charisma.

After honing his craft under the tutelage of Stella Adler, Saxon began his career as a contract actor at Universal Pictures, featuring in notable films such as Rock, Pretty Baby (1956) and Portrait in Black (1961). The 1970s and 1980s marked a significant period in his career, where he became a familiar face in horror cinema, appearing in classics like Black Christmas (1974), Dario Argento's Tenebrae (1982), and the iconic A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984).

Saxon's talents extended to martial arts, where he starred alongside Bruce Lee in the legendary film Enter the Dragon (1973). His impressive filmography also includes roles in Westerns like Death of a Gunfighter (1969) and Joe Kidd (1972), as well as the action-packed Raid on Entebbe (1977). Although his appearances became less frequent in the 1990s, he still left his mark with roles in Wes Craven's New Nightmare (1994) and From Dusk till Dawn (1996).

John Saxon passed away from pneumonia on July 25, 2020, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, leaving behind a rich legacy in film and television.
