Big Boy
Biography
Big Boy, born Kurt Alexander on September 8, 1969, is a prominent American radio personality and actor, renowned for his engaging broadcasting style and vibrant personality. His moniker, Big Boy, reflects his former hefty physique, which he transformed through duodenal switch surgery in 2003, resulting in a remarkable weight loss of over 250 pounds.
His journey in radio began in 1994 at KPWR (Power 106) in Los Angeles, where he initially gained attention as a 400-pound bodyguard for the hip-hop group The Pharcyde. His natural comedic talent and conversational ability quickly led him to success on the station, with overnight and afternoon shows before he was offered the coveted morning slot in 1997. This pivotal moment birthed "Big Boy's Neighborhood," a dynamic program that seamlessly blended hip-hop music, celebrity interviews, Hollywood gossip, and memorable prank phone calls through his alter ego, Luther Luffeigh. With a talented supporting cast, including Luscious Liz Hernandez and Louie G, the show quickly became a favorite among younger urban audiences.
In 2007, following a decade of local success, ABC Radio Network began syndicating Big Boy's daily and weekend shows nationwide, reaching 35 major markets at its zenith. In February 2015, he transitioned to KRRL (Real 92.3) in Los Angeles. That same year, Big Boy was honored with induction into the Radio Hall of Fame, solidifying his legacy in the industry.
