Biography

Michael Cochrane, born on May 19, 1947, is a distinguished English actor renowned for his portrayals of aristocratic characters, often infusing them with a charming yet sinister undertone. Throughout his extensive career, Cochrane has made significant contributions to television and radio, notably as Oliver Sterling in the beloved Radio 4 drama, *The Archers*.

His television credits span several acclaimed series, including *The Pallisers* (1974), *Wings* (1977-78), *The Citadel* (1983), and *Goodbye Mr. Chips* (1984). He is also recognized for his roles in *No Job for a Lady* and *The Chief* (1990-1995), as well as for portraying Sir Henry Simmerson in the popular *Sharpe* series.

Cochrane has made memorable appearances in the iconic science fiction series *Doctor Who*, first as Charles Cranleigh in the 1982 episode "Black Orchid," and later as Redvers Fenn-Cooper in "Ghost Light" (1989). He further expanded his connection to the franchise with a role in the 2006 audio drama "No Man's Land" produced by Big Finish Productions.

In addition to his television work, he appeared in the ITV series *The Uninvited*, had a role in the soap *Doctors* in 2008, and was featured in the 2009 drama *Margaret*.
