Paul Benedict
Biography
Paul Benedict (September 17, 1938 – December 1, 2008) was a versatile American actor whose career spanned several decades, beginning in the 1960s. He gained widespread recognition for his memorable role as The Number Painter on the beloved PBS children's program Sesame Street, where he engaged and entertained young audiences with his unique character. Additionally, he showcased his comedic talent as the eccentric English neighbor Harry Bentley on the iconic CBS sitcom The Jeffersons, a role that further cemented his status in the television landscape.
Benedict's contributions to film also include a notable appearance in the cult classic Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory. Although often mistakenly identified as Mr. Turkentine, the school teacher, this character was actually portrayed by David Battley; nevertheless, Benedict's involvement in the film remains a cherished part of his legacy.
